SYNERGISE - subheadline

The third Component Field Test (CFT3) of the SYNERGISE project, hosted by our consortium partner Södertörn Fire Brigade (SBFF), was held in Stockholm, Sweden, from June 9 to 12, 2025. This field test marked another major milestone in validating SYNERGISE technologies in lifelike conditions designed to mirror the complexity and unpredictability of real disaster scenarios.

CFT3 brought together SYNERGISE partners, first responder teams, and observers to evaluate how the integrated technologies function in multi-hazard situations. The field test was structured around five realistic operational modules designed to test system performance in a variety of challenging urban emergency scenarios.

The five test modules were:

  • Underground Parking Garage Explosion

  • Apartment Fire

  • Multi-Vehicle Collision, Search & Hazmat Response

  • Ladder Rescue

  • Hot Smoke Diving

These scenarios enabled SYNERGISE partners to assess the usability, integration, and performance of the technologies in real-time conditions. First responders operated the systems as they would in actual missions, providing hands-on feedback crucial for refinement and development.

As in previous tests, the activities were coordinated under the supervision of Steve Gadsdon, Director for Field Testing from the Project Advisory Board. His oversight ensured that the exercises aligned with the project’s overall methodology and technical objectives. SBFF played a vital role in the successful planning and execution of the event.

Participating first responder organizations included:

  • Södertörn Fire Brigade (SBFF)

  • Centrum naukowo-badawcze ochrony przeciwpożarowej (CNBOP-PIB)

  • Hellenic Rescue Team of Attica (HRTA)

  • Gezamenlijke Brandweer (GB)

  • German Federal Agency for Technical Relief (THW)

Technologies tested during CFT3 included:

  • Wearable garment with integrated vital signs and environmental sensors – by Wearin

  • Localization devices – by SYSNAV

  • OWL Drone for situational assessment – by NTNU

  • Outdoor drone for mapping – by ASTRIAL GmbH

  • Private 5G connectivity – by ETRI

  • Field communication via WiFi and satellite – by ASTRIAL GmbH

  • eKIT for mobile communication support – by THW

  • C3I/IMS Command and Control platform – by ASTRIAL GmbH & Satways Ltd

  • Augmented Reality Headset for live video conferencing – by VIRNECT

CFT3 showcased the evolving maturity of the SYNERGISE solutions, demonstrating their value in enhancing situational awareness, coordination, and responder safety. Real-time operational feedback from end users continues to shape the direction of development and integration.

The successful completion of CFT3 lays important groundwork for the final component field test in Switzerland, as the SYNERGISE project continues to bridge the gap between technological innovation and real-world disaster response needs.
